Crepey skin resembles tissues paper on the face and body. It is finely wrinkled and can feel saggy and loose. Whilst crepey skin is similar to wrinkles, it tends to affect a larger area and this skin is more fragile and thinner. It more commonly affects the following areas: under the eyes, face, neck, chest, inner arms and above knees.
The biggest cause of crepey skin is sun damage. Other causes are also ageing, lack of moisture or excessive weight loss.
UV rays from the sun cause the breakdown of collagen and elastin which is what’s needed in the skin to keep it looking smooth and supple. When these break down it will cause the skin to get thinner and wrinkles to appear.
You also lose collagen and elastin with age. Stress, smoking and pollution also all contribute to visible signs of aging.
If you skin is dehydrated this will lead to an increase in moisture loss through the skin and the skin will become dry and appear more crepey. Dehydrated skin can occur if you use too harsh skincare products which strip away the natural oils in your skin.
Skin boosters like profhilo and hydromax work like injectable moisturisers to hydrate the surface of the skin and smooth out the wrinkles. They also stimulate collagen and elastin.

For more sun damaged skin or severe crepeyness there is an advanced skin repair treatment called polynucleotides which again will hydrate and smooth the skin and give much longer lasting collagen production because it uses DNA to teach your skin cells to function as they did when you were younger.

Micro-needling helps to exfoliate the surface of the skin and remove the dead skin cells. This encourages the formation of new healthier skin cells which results in brighter smoother skin. It also stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.
