Frequently asked questions

What are thin or dry lips?

Thin lips can make the lower face look less balanced or make us look older. Dry lips can feel very tight and might often crack and flake. You may feel the need to constantly be applying lip balm to hydrate and soothe them

What causes dry or thin lips?

The majority of us have naturally thin and dry lips. Lips become thinner and drier as we age because our skin loses the ability to produce collagen and elastin.

What treatments are available?

My patients wants their lips to look slightly fuller and be more hydrated, but they are also very afraid of the duck look. This will not happen at Dr Amy Law’s Clinic. I use premium high quality dermal fillers which are soft and supple to mimic your natural lip tissue. Less is always more when it comes to enhancing lips and I always explain that if more volume is desired, we can build them up over time so they stay looking natural.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers and have an excellent safety profile due to the fact that the body breaks it down over time. The procedure is minimally invasive when done by an experienced medical professional. Every procedure has some risks, the most common risks are some bruising, redness and swelling. All risks will be discussed through during your consultation.

Do dermal fillers hurt?

I do everything I can to reduce any discomfort during treatment to make it as comfortable as possible for you. Topical local anaesthetic cream can be applied to the area beforehand and I use the smallest needles to ensure maximum comfort. Where possible I will use a cannula (a longer/ blunt ended needle) which makes treatment more comfortable. I am a very slow and gentle injector and the feedback I’ve had is that people are always pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the procedure was.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers can last anywhere between 6-18months. This depends on the type of filler injected, how much is used and which area of the face is being treated and how active that part of the face is. It is affected by your own metabolism and how quickly your body breaks it down and this can vary between individuals. This will all be discussed in detail during the consultation.

Do dermal fillers have any side effects?

Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and the majority of people can return to their normal day to day activities straight away. However, like with any procedure there are some risks and the most common ones are bruising, swelling and redness. There is a risk of an allergic reaction but they are very rare. If you suffer with cold sores then I may advise you to take prevent
Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and most people can return to their normal life immediately after treatment. However, all treatments pose some risk; the common side effects are redness, swelling and bruising. Allergic reactions are very rare but can occur. If you suffer from cold sores, it’s advisable to do preventive medication before treatment.

You come on a journey with me whereby I initially will listen to all of your concerns and then I will use my medical knowledge and expertise to create a bespoke treatment plan that is tailored to meet your individual concerns.
