Frequently asked questions

What are nose to mouth lines?

These are also known as nasolabial folds. They are the crease that appear at the side of your nose and extend down towards the corners of your mouth. They often become more noticeable when you talk or smile.

What are mouth to chin lines?

These are also known as marionette lines. They are the crease/fold that appears from the corner of your mouth and extends down towards your chin

What causes nose to mouth/ mouth to chin lines?

These lines occur as we get older. The fat in our cheeks begin to shrink and drop down our face. Our skin loses its elasticity and therefore the resultant sagging causes these folds to appear

What treatments are available?

As these folds occur naturally with ageing, it is important to find out what’s caused them and build the correct foundations to achieve the most natural looking result. Every patients’ treatment plan will vary depending on their age and the severity of their folds. It often involves a subtle amount of cheek filler to lift the face and possibly filler into the folds itself or surrounding structures.

Muscle relaxant injections can also help compliment dermal filler treatment for the mouth to chin lines. This will be assessed and discussed during your consultation.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers and have an excellent safety profile due to the fact that the body breaks it down over time. The procedure is minimally invasive when done by an experienced medical professional. Every procedure has some risks, the most common risks are some bruising, redness and swelling. All risks will be discussed through during your consultation.

Do dermal fillers hurt?

I do everything I can to reduce any discomfort during treatment to make it as comfortable as possible for you. Topical local anaesthetic cream can be applied to the area beforehand and I use the smallest needles to ensure maximum comfort. Where possible I will use a cannula (a longer/ blunt ended needle) which makes treatment more comfortable. I am a very slow and gentle injector and the feedback I’ve had is that people are always pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the procedure was.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers can last anywhere between 6-18months. This depends on the type of filler injected, how much is used and which area of the face is being treated and how active that part of the face is. It is affected by your own metabolism and how quickly your body breaks it down and this can vary between individuals. This will all be discussed in detail during the consultation.

Do dermal fillers have any side effects?

Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and the majority of people can return to their normal day to day activities straight away. However, like with any procedure there are some risks and the most common ones are bruising, swelling and redness. There is a risk of an allergic reaction but they are very rare. If you suffer with cold sores then I may advise you to take prevent
