We start to lose the contours of our face as we age. This results in less definition in your cheekbones and jawline.
Some people naturally have flatter cheekbones and less definition to their jawline. However, as we age, this changes our face shape – we start to lose fat in our face. When we are younger the fat under our skin gives us the round contours to our facial structure, so when we lose this, our face starts to flatten and those facial contours start to diminish. The fat in our cheeks also starts to move down our face and into the jawline. This forms jowls which cause our jawline to becomes less defined and our face looks more bottom heavy.
Dermal fillers can be used to enhance your facial contours. At Dr Amy’s Clinic, I pride myself in striving for a very natural result so you will never have to worry about looking overdone. Dermal fillers should enhance your own natural features which will make you look more youthful and rejuvenated but you should never look “treated”.
Are dermal fillers safe?
Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers and have an excellent safety profile due to the fact that the body breaks it down over time. The procedure is minimally invasive when done by an experienced medical professional. Every procedure has some risks, the most common risks are some bruising, redness and swelling. All risks will be discussed through during your consultation.
Do dermal fillers hurt?
I do everything I can to reduce any discomfort during treatment to make it as comfortable as possible for you. Topical local anaesthetic cream can be applied to the area beforehand and I use the smallest needles to ensure maximum comfort. Where possible I will use a cannula (a longer/ blunt ended needle) which makes treatment more comfortable. I am a very slow and gentle injector and the feedback I’ve had is that people are always pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the procedure was.
How long do dermal fillers last?
Dermal fillers can last anywhere between 6-18months. This depends on the type of filler injected, how much is used and which area of the face is being treated and how active that part of the face is. It is affected by your own metabolism and how quickly your body breaks it down and this can vary between individuals. This will all be discussed in detail during the consultation.
Do dermal fillers have any side effects?
Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and the majority of people can return to their normal day to day activities straight away. However, like with any procedure there are some risks and the most common ones are bruising, swelling and redness. There is a risk of an allergic reaction but they are very rare. If you suffer with cold sores then I may advise you to take prevent
