Frequently asked questions

What is a receding chin?

This condition is where the chin appears like its sloping inwards and is more set back from the upper jaw making it look less prominent and defined. This can therefore unbalance the profile of your face and even make other structures on your face look bigger proportionally e.g. your nose.

What causes a receding chin?

Some of us are born with a weaker chin. It can also be caused due to ageing. As we age we lose the bone and soft tissue around the chin/ jaw and therefore it becomes less defined.

What treatments are available?

Dermal fillers are used to improve the projection and contour of your chin. The amount of dermal filler required depends on the severity of the receded chin and how much definition is desired.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers and have an excellent safety profile due to the fact that the body breaks it down over time. The procedure is minimally invasive when done by an experienced medical professional. Every procedure has some risks, the most common risks are some bruising, redness and swelling. All risks will be discussed through during your consultation.

Do dermal fillers hurt?

I do everything I can to reduce any discomfort during treatment to make it as comfortable as possible for you. Topical local anaesthetic cream can be applied to the area beforehand and I use the smallest needles to ensure maximum comfort. Where possible I will use a cannula (a longer/ blunt ended needle) which makes treatment more comfortable. I am a very slow and gentle injector and the feedback I’ve had is that people are always pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the procedure was.

How long do dermal fillers last?

Dermal fillers can last anywhere between 6-18months. This depends on the type of filler injected, how much is used and which area of the face is being treated and how active that part of the face is. It is affected by your own metabolism and how quickly your body breaks it down and this can vary between individuals. This will all be discussed in detail during the consultation.

Do dermal fillers have any side effects?

Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and the majority of people can return to their normal day to day activities straight away. However, like with any procedure there are some risks and the most common ones are bruising, swelling and redness. There is a risk of an allergic reaction but they are very rare. If you suffer with cold sores then I may advise you to take prevent
Dermal fillers are minimally invasive and most people can return to their normal life immediately after treatment.
